First off, Happy International Women’s day far and wide!
This particular day has become more and more significant in my life as the years passed and I’ve delved into exploring my identity and role of a women.
I was raised in a single-parent family- notably a single-mother family. She has been the beacon of light and strength that taught me to stand my ground as a woman and as an individual within this sometimes-harsh world.
I have written the below piece last year - originally titled ‘Single Mother’ - in honour of her and all the single mothers out there.
As I edited , re-edited and edited again through this year, I found the piece metamorphosing and encompassing beyond the single theme it was born from. I recollected the influences from all the women that I have come across in person, in history, in the digital sphere, etc.- from family to friends to colleagues and bosses- I have but great and inspiring memories and am truly been honoured to grow and develop as a woman through the influence of these strong women.
Therefore, I am proud to present this poem for this year’s International Women’s Day, titled “Strong Women \ Single Mother”.
