HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
Before we move on, I’d like to state clearly that this series and my posts are based on my experiences and opinion which may or may not change over time; and the experience definitely varies person to person. Nothing is ever set in stone and this is supposed to be an invitation to discuss, enjoy, explore, and share.
Please read for enjoyment and entertainment, and I will always advocate for experiencing each product for yourself to establish your own firm and unique opinion. I respect all the brands that are mentioned on my website and only seek to build a platform where authentic experiences can be expressed. Any sponsored and/or affiliated posts are and will be explicitly mentioned.
Thank you for your support and time!
Welcome back to my blog, or if you’ve just come across The Disoriental:
Hello! Welcome! Come in! Have a cuppa!
If you haven’t read the first two posts yet, you can read the series here.
Now… Which one emerged as the forerunner from the second week??
Lime Crime’s Red Velvet
Lime Crime Velvetines Liquid Lipstick in shade Red Velvet
Although MAC’s liquid lipstick is very texturally full-bodied, easy and smooth to apply and is highly pigmented, the formula simply does not bode well with my lips and really dries up to an uncomfortable point. Therefore, in choosing the best lippy forward for Valentines’ day, Lime Crime’s Velvetines liquid lipstick is the one for this instance!
So… Who will join JSC’s Redrum and Lime Crime’s Red Velvet on the forefront?
This week… The two liquid lipsticks introduced are:
*Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip-Liquid Matte Lipstick in shade CRANBERRY STILETTO.
*Sugarpill Liquid Lip Colour in shade NURSE .
There had been a few indie brands I’ve always wanted to try, and these two brands are it!
The first thought I’ve had about this dual experience was: “One LOOKS like liquid sugar, the other SMELLS like liquid sugar…”
When I first opened Beauty Bakerie’s Cranberry Stiletto I was very surprised with its consistency. It was that of like slightly cooled, liquid sugar…For a minute I thought of fake blood syrup that is used in shoots and filming…and wanted to lick it.
The shade itself fulfilled my darker fantasies and I was DEFINITELY channelling my inner Morticia Addams. Most importantly, the lip whip stayed true to its claim on being smudge-free. This formula actually reminded me of a slightly thicker and stickier version of the Korean lip tints that are all the craze and which was my preference for lip colour not so long ago. This formula clings on to your lips so oil-based makeup remover would work more efficiently than micellar water.
The stickiness would subside as the lipstick dries. Though, if you smack your lips frequently and require lip balm throughout the day, it would reinstate the moisture, thence reinstating the stickiness until it dries again. Due to its sticky liquid consistency, there needs to be care and patience when building layers to avoid patches.
I had quite a fun experience with Sugarpill’s Nurse. This liquid lip has this particular sweet smell that I am sure everyone would somehow recognize yet can’t pinpoint what exactly it is. Even if you say 'orange,’ you will have this bugging feeling that that doesn’t FULLY describe the smell.
So prior to verifying the flavour of the smell, I had a mini guess game with a few people and here were some of the thoughts on what Nurse smelt like:
“The rice paper of sherbert-filled, flying saucer sweets”
“Orange with hints of vanilla”
“Orange Sugus/Fruitella sweets”
Aside from having fun testing our olfactory systems, the formula for Sugarpill’s lip colour was excellent. From the application at the beginning being very smooth with easy product-manipulation, to towards the end of the day when my lips still maintained some softness (which really surprised me), I was actually blown away by how compatible this creamy formula was with my lips. Even the degree of creaminess was perfect for application and had one-swipe coverage without being too ‘heavy'.’ The lip colour is also VERY buildable, its layers dries off evenly, and cleans without much effort. I would dub it as one of the most user-friendly liquid lipsticks I’ve encountered so far.
So which liquid lip is one step closer to being my valentine?
We shall find out next week!
Which one do YOU think will make it through?
Thank you for reading.
